WobbleMeter: Stability Testing For NewHeights Elegante XT Standing Desk Header

Stability is the foundation for the standing desk products that they develop. Let’s find out how stable this version of their frame did when the WobbleMeter measured the deflection for both wobble and rocking motions.

Quick Summary

The NewHeights XT scored in the Excellent range for wobble (side-to-side) at all three heights tested: 3 at 30″, 6 at 42″, and 9 at 46″. Rocking (front-to-back) scores were Good to Very Good: 9 at 30″, 19 at 42″, and 22 at 46″. All scores fall within the 0-30 range where users typically notice little to no motion.

Key takeaway: The NewHeights XT is one of the most stable two-leg frames tested. Wobble is nearly imperceptible at all heights. Rocking increases at 42-46″ as expected but remains well within the Very Good range.

WobbleMeter Score Range Guide

Example score pictured above

0-20 = Excellent Stability
Almost all of the desks tested at sitting height will score between 0-20. This is our baseline for excellent stability since most standing desks provide excellent stability at their lowest heights. Users in this range will not notice motion.

21-30 = Very Good to Good Stability
Between 20-30 most users will not notice the small amount of motion in this range.

31-40 = Good to Fair Stability
Between 31-40 some users may begin to notice the amount of motion in this range. This is especially true the closer the score is to 40.

41-50 = Fair to Bad Stability
Between 41-50 most users will notice the amount of motion in this range.

51-60+ = Very Bad Stability
51-60+ all users will notice the amount of motion in this range. This is especially true for scores above 60.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a good WobbleMeter score for a standing desk?

A: Scores of 0-20 are Excellent – users will not notice motion. Scores of 21-30 are Very Good to Good – motion is minimal and most users won’t feel it. Above 30, users start to notice wobble or rocking. Above 40, most users will find the motion distracting. The NewHeights XT scored in the Excellent to Very Good range across all six test conditions.

Q: Why does a standing desk wobble more at higher heights?

A: Physics – the longer the column, the more leverage any applied force has on the base. A desk at 46″ has more column extension than at 30″, so the same 5 lb pull force creates more deflection at the surface. This is why high desk stability at extended heights is a key differentiator between desk frames. The NewHeights XT’s extruded aluminum columns help minimize this effect.

Q: What is the difference between wobble and rocking in standing desks?

A: Wobble is side-to-side deflection – how much the desk moves left and right when force is applied. Rocking is front-to-back deflection. Two-leg standing desks typically handle wobble better than rocking due to the cross-support brace between the legs. The NewHeights XT’s rocking scores are higher than its wobble scores – a normal pattern for two-leg frames.

Q: How does the NewHeights XT compare to other standing desks in stability?

A: The NewHeights XT is among the top performers in our WobbleMeter testing for two-leg frames. Its extruded aluminum column design gives it a structural advantage over standard steel tube frames at extended heights. For the full comparison across all tested desks, see our WobbleMeter results page.

Q: What is the weight capacity of the NewHeights Elegante XT?

A: The NewHeights XT has a rated weight capacity of 325 lbs. This includes the desktop surface weight. A 30″x48″ laminate top weighs approximately 20-25 lbs, leaving roughly 300 lbs of capacity for monitors, computers, and accessories. This is sufficient for virtually all standard office setups.
